Edward Lim P. Eng.
Professional Engineer Specializing in Timber Frame and Wood Truss Design
Edward Lim (P.Eng.) is a professional engineer and President & CEO of United Building Systems International Corp.
Ed is passionate about timber frame design and specializes in the engineering of timber trusses and wood frame structures for full-service timber truss manufacturers, developers and private clients alike.
With nearly three decades of structural engineering experience in the design, manufacturing and construction industries, Ed has enjoyed a successful track record of producing multiple award winning timber trusses and wood frame structures throughout the Greater Vancouver/Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island and the Sea to Sky Corridor communities of Whistler, Squamish and Pemberton.
Ed’s clients have engaged his special expertise in wood frame engineering for the design and construction of beautiful timber frame luxury homes on spectacular golf course developments such as Morgan Creek Golf Course, Furry Creek Golf and Country Club and Nicklaus North Green Lake Estates.
His firm’s corporate clients include Whistler Development Corp, McDonald’s Restaurants, Polygon Construction, BOSA Properties, Cascadia Green Development, Cressy Development Corporation and many others.
A major career highlight of Ed’s was participating in the engineering of various venue buildings and event structures for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games. He was involved in the design and construction of Athletes Village in Vancouver, The Whistler Sliding Centre and Whistler Olympic Park in Callahan Valley.
Drawing from the traditional truss construction designs used to produce many of North America and Europe’s earliest timber buildings, Ed masterfully blends this old school style craftsmanship with leading edge wood framing technologies. In doing so, he is able to create the finest quality designs for the construction of truly magnificent modern day timber frame structures.
As CEO of United Building Systems, Edward Lim (P.Eng) offers a full, end to end timber frame engineering service. This ranges from initial consultation to engineering design, construction management and site reviews all the way to project completion.
Ed is committed to ensuring his innovative and reliable designs meet the clients’ full expectations - and that they are properly applied throughout the construction process. His Vancouver based firm, United Building Systems, is a licensed builder.
With a desire to make a positive contribution to the growth of the Canadian wood truss industry, Ed serves as a Director (and past President) of the Western Wood Truss Association of British Columbia (WWTABC), as well as on the Provincial Steering Committee of the Canadian Wood Council (CWC), where he is one of the founding members.
A lifelong learner, Ed is enrolled in Summit Pacific College’s (Clearbrook, British Columbia) Graduate Certificate For Non-Profit Leadership program, while in pursuit of completing his MBA at Trinity Western University (Langley, British Columbia).
When not engaged in business endeavours, Ed relishes spending quality time with his family and serving in his faith community, as well as living his passion for wellness by participating in marathons and triathlons.
